On December 25th, GIPA Movie Club will host the talk – “Christian Motifs in Harry Potter Series”. This talk will focus on how Harry Potter depicts the story of the Second Coming, portraying both the Christ and the Antichrist.
Guest Speaker Yana Rasskaz - a current PhD student at the University of Edinburgh, who did her MA and MSc dissertations on Harry Potter Series. The first one focused on Christianity - "Rowling's Gospel: The Second Coming of Christ in the Harry Potter Series". The second one explored the role of the Arthurian legends in the series - "The Fellowship of the Round Table: J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter as a Descendant of Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur”.
Yana's current PhD project focuses on archetypes in fantasy, folklore, and myths, and how Harry Potter changed certain character archetypes.
