Responsible Conduct of Research - Research Integrity and Ethics in Georgian Universities (ETHICS)

Within the European Union Erasmus+2022 Institutional development program, the first national structural reform project had been funded: “Responsible Conduct of Research -Research Integrity and Ethics in Georgian Universities” (ETHICS). GIPA - Georgian Institute of Public Affairs is one of the partners in the aforementioned project. Project operates within 4 years (2023-2027).  

 

The aim of the project is to launch a systemic improvement intervention to improve the quality of University and Research-Performing Organizations (RPOs) research through launching measures to adhere to the foundations of high-quality research and excellence. 

ETHICS project’s specific objectives are to introduce the mechanisms of ensuring research ethics, research integrity and good faith for researchers and within advanced level study programs, and in the accreditation standards of doctoral programs to enhance the standards of Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) – Ethics and Integrity supported by appropriate national and institutional policies and processes that help avoid cases of scientific work lacking originality.

Project coordinator is Ilia state university and partners include the Ministry of education and Science of Georgia, the National Center for the development of education quality and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.  

Along with 10 Georgian universities, 4 European universities are involved in the project, which will contribute to the sharing of both local and international practices and the establishment of strategically important communication network with European universities.

 

The formal implementation of conscientious research practices and the development of the goals envisaged by the project will help to increase the competitiveness of Georgian universities, both in Georgia and abroad, especially within the framework of the programs announced by Horizon Europe and the European Research Council.
