The University of the Aegean is a public, multi-campus university in Greece, established in 1984 with its administrative headquarters in Mytilene, Lesvos. Spanning six Aegean islands—Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros, and Lemnos—the university offers a unique educational model that combines academic excellence with the cultural and environmental richness of the Aegean region.
The University of the Aegean traces its intellectual heritage to early 20th-century efforts to establish a major Greek university in the Eastern Mediterranean, inspired by renowned mathematician Constantin Carathéodory. Today, it continues this vision by promoting innovation, research, and international collaboration while contributing to the social, cultural, and economic development of the Aegean region.
The university comprises five schools and 18 academic departments, providing a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fields such as social sciences, business, engineering, sciences, humanities, and environmental studies.
From 2025–2028, cooperation between GIPA and the University of the Aegean is implemented within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme (International Credit Mobility), including the exchange of students and administrative/academic staff.
