GIPA hosted an international conference - "The Socio-Economic and Political Dimensions of Illicit Trade". Held on March 14-15, 2025, at the Frontline Club Georgia, the conference explored the complex relationship between illicit trade and geopolitical dynamics, with a particular focus on Georgia's unique challenges.
The event brought together experts from over 14 European countries and scholars from Georgian universities, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across disciplines such as political science, economics, media, and environmental studies.
The conference featured active participation from GIPA professors, journalism school students, and alumni. In her opening address, GIPA’s Rector, Maka Ioseliani, welcomed attendees, while Italian professor Daniela Irrera, head of the working group, presented future plans for continued research and collaboration.
The conference was organized within the framework of the COST Action on Globalization, Illicit Trade, Sustainability and Security, coordinated by GIPA’s Professor Tiko Tsomaia, a Management Committee Member of the action, and facilitated by GIPA’s Research Department.
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is an intergovernmental framework connecting researchers from over 41 countries, enabling collaboration and the exchange of expertise to advance scientific and technological innovation.
