Award Ceremony for Best Journalism Work
In 2012 the European Journalism Center, the Dutch Foreign Ministry and the Georgian Institute for Public Affairs created an GIPA-Friedman prize to honor excellence in journalism.
Josh Friedman is on the board of the Committee to Protect Journalists and served as an early chair of CPJ. He is on the advisory board of the Dart Center on Journalism and Trauma. He travels frequently to Asia, Latin America and Europe to lecture on journalism. Friedman has received numerous journalism awards including the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting in 1985 for his coverage of the famine in Ethiopia.

The 7th annual GIPA-Friedman Prizes to honor excellence in journalism in the Georgia were awarded on January 21 2019 in Tbilisi.
The GIPA-Friedman Prize for Excellence in Investigative Journalism (TV Project ) and a special silver prize award was given to Lasha Kveseladze of the Rustavi 2.
