Professor, holds a PhD in Philosophy.
Has extensive experience in academic activity, research, public administration and public policy. Throughout his distinguished career, he has contributed significantly to higher education governance, democratic institution-building and state administration in Georgia.
He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Tbilisi State University in 1992. Between 1993 and 1994, he pursued graduate studies at the Central European University (Prague) and continued his academic activity at the Institute of Philosophy of the Georgian Academy of Sciences from 1993 to 1996.
From 1996 to 1997, he taught Philosophy and Cultural Studies at the Free University of Tbilisi. Between 1995 and 2000, worked at the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Tbilisi as a Local Government Expert, contributing to democratic governance and public administration initiatives.
Since 2000, Professor Margvelashvili held several senior leadership positions at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). He served as Rector of GIPA from 2000–2006, from 2010–2012 and as Head of the Research Department from 2006–2010.
In 2012, he was appointed as a Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and simultaneously served as First Deputy Prime Minister. From 2013 to 2018, he served as the Fourth President of Georgia.
Today, Professor Margvelashvili remains actively engaged in academic, educational and public affairs.
He has been a Member of the Board of the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) since 2019.
