The SI Summer Academy for Young Professionals (SAYP) is a Swedish Institute training programme developed to build awareness, capacity and resilience in the practice of governance in the Baltic Sea region and countries in the EU Eastern Partnership. In the framework of this programme, the School of Social Sciences at GIPA in co-operation with the School of Public Administration at Gothenburg University developed a project, focusing on Migration and Integration in the Eastern Partnership and the Baltic Sea Region: Policy and Administrative Challenges for the Development of Inclusive Societies. The project envisaged training of young professionals from post-soviet countries and Eastern Europe to strengthen their analytical capacity and practical skills in relation to migration and integration issues. The training module relied on a mix of lectures and seminars by Swedish and Georgian academics, experience of Georgian practitioners, field visits to IDP settlements of Tserovani and Koda, problem-based learning exercises and small scale project work (21-30 august, 2008).
