Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) with the support of the European Journalism Centre (EJC) announces a competition for the Joshua Freedman and GIPA award in journalism. To be considered for the award the work needs to have been published between 20 May 2015 and 30 May 2016. Submitted pieces will be considered and evaluated by the jury which will be composed of the representatives of media outlets as well as the academia. The award ceremony will be held on 16 June, in Tbilisi, at the conference organised by GIPA and European Journalism Training Association http://ejtatbilisi.gipa.me. The laureates will receive prizes from Joshua Freedman, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. The prize money amounts to EUR 1500 and the deadline for the submission of pieces for the competition is 5 June. In the evaluation process due consideration will be given to the principles of fairness, balance, diversity of sources and impartiality of the language. The subject of the project must relate to the issues that are relevant to Georgia, that concern society and its different groups. The piece should discuss the effects of that particular issue on the people and reflect on the problem and unfairness in a direct and intelligible manner. The applicants should also strive to present the events in an engaging manner to attract the reader, listeners or viewers. The submitted piece must demonstrate the author’s skills in conducting research, analysis and interviews. The project must present the viewpoints of both - those who have been affected by the problem as well as those who are responsible for its solution. The project is implemented by the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs with the support of the European Journalism Centre. Applications to the competition should be submitted to the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management at GIPA. See the application form here.
