On March 21st, in observance of Women’s History Month, the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs with the support of “Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia PROLOG Activity” organized a public lecture “What is the State’s Response to Violence Against Women” at the media club “Frontline Georgia”. Speakers of the discussion were: Ekaterine Skhiladze – Head of the Gender Equality Department at the Public Defender’s Office, Tamar Dekanosidze – Lawyer at the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, and Natia Mezvrishvili – Head of Department of Supervision Over Prosecutorial Activities and Strategic Development at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia. Speakers discussed the current situation in Georgia on the issues of domestic violence and violence against women, the tendencies in the investigation and punishment of gender-based crimes, and prosecution of these crimes committed against women. Thirty people attended the lecture. Vakhushti Menabde – PROLoG Human Rights Chair at GIPA was present to moderate the discussion.
