In observance of Women’s History Month, the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs with the support of “Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia PROLoG Activity” is pleased to invite you to a public lecture concerning women’s rights at the media club “Frontline Georgia” on March 21st at 19:00: “What is the State’s Response to Violence Against Women”.
The following speakers will participate in the discussion: Ekaterine Skhiladze – Head of the Gender Equality Department at the Public Defender’s Office. Ms. Skhiladze will speak about the current situation in Georgia on the issues of domestic violence and violence against women. During the discussion, present statistical data and trend analysis will be outlined. Also, special attention will be paid to women’s murder cases (femicide)
Tamar Dekanosidze – Lawyer at the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association. Ms. Dekanosidze will discuss the tendencies in the investigation and punishment of gender-based crimes. She will highlight international standards and practice regarding homicide and other violent crimes committed against women.
Natia Mezvrishvili – Head of Department of Supervision Over Prosecutorial Activities and Strategic Development at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia. Ms. Mezvrishvili will speak about the investigation and prosecution of crimes committed against women.
Discussion moderator will be Vakhushti Menabde, PROLoG Human Rights Chair at GIPA.
