On 5 November, GIPA hosted Kevin Jon Heller, the Professor of SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies) of University of London. During the meeting, Professor Heller talked about the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Formal Investigation into the Situation in Georgia: Legal and Evidentiary Issues.
During the talk, Professor Heller explained the procedure governing the request by the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) to open a formal investigation, discussed how the OTP normally investigates particular situations, and examined some of the most important legal and evidentiary issues that are likely to arise specifically in the context of the Georgia investigation.
Professor Heller is associated with the SOAS since 2013. Before, he held different academic positions at Melbourne Law School, University of Auckland Faculty of Law and University of Georgia School of Law.
