The exhibition entitled UNLOCK presented to visitors over 100 of the best works and projects of GIPA’s students and professors prepared in the course of the current school year. The exhibition was held at Rooms Hotel Tbilisi on the evening of 18 July.
The concept of UNLOCK is a part of GIPA’s teaching process. The aim is to unlock and broaden the mind, go past the limits of traditional thinking and unlock everything that is locked within the box.
The opening speech was delivered by the Dean of the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management – Nino Ivanishvili.
The best works were presented by the students of the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management bachelor’s programme in audio-visual and media art and the master’s programme in journalism.
High praise of the audience was received by installations, photo, video and sound projects presented at the exhibition. The audience also expressed great approval of the artworks of the following GIPA professors: Tsira Elisashvili (painting and photography), Leli Blagonravova (photography), Mari Nakani (photography), Dima Chikvaidze (photography), Dina Oganova (photography) and Sopo Cherkezishvili (painting).
Following the tradition, in the frames of the GIPA Support project, students and the lecturers of the institute expressed their support to those affected by the flood of 13 June and donated the funds that were raised through the sale of artworks presented at the exhibition to the School of the Future.
Deputy Director of the School of the Future, Nutsa Koreli, thanked GIPA for the support and noted that such assistance is particularly important for them at the time.
In the course of the exhibition, the jury announced the best student portfolios in two categories -Sopo Chkheidze was named as the author of the best audio-visual portfolio while Sandro Laliashvili received the award in the category of media art. The winners were awarded a special prize and received tuition fee waiver for one term.
Further awards were given out at the event to the best teachers of GIPA training center (based on students’ evaluations) and the top-ranking students (based on the academic excellence), who received special prizes.
Medea Akhalkatsi, who was named the best lecturer of the General Management course, wished good luck to students and noted that this year she had exceptionally gifted students in the class. Giorgi Turkia, the recipient of the best lecturer award in three certificate courses, encouraged students to “show the world tangible results of the knowledge gained in GIPA. Thereby stressing that “at the end of the day it is the result that matters and not the grade received in the class”. “The time spent in GIPA was one of the best” – said Ela Makaridze, the student of the certificate course in PR.
