GIPA Vis Moot Team Success in Vienna

This was the first time for GIPA team to participate in 22nd Willem C. Vis Moot Competition held in Vienna, Austria.  GIPA Vis Moot team comprised of Khatia Gogilashvili, Ketevan Givishvili, Darina Beridze and Mikheil Shatashvilihad to go through 6 months of intensive preparations to participate in the competition. 

Within the scope of oral rounds, the team played four sessions of mock arbitration proceedings against University of Tartu (Estonia), Brunel Law School (the United Kingdom), Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (China) and Arizona Summit Law School (USA). Each team member delivered oral presentation on behalf of both, claimant and respondent. The team showed excellent performance and received extremely positive feedback from arbitrators and fellow students.
The popularity of the competition increases annually, which can be also evidenced by the growing number of the participating teams. GIPA team was one of up to 300law schools from 66 countries that took part in this year’s competition.The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot fosters the study of international commercial lawand arbitrationamong students from different countries. Competition is an annual event held since 1994 in Vienna, Austria and unites students, leading lawyer practitioners and scholars around the globe.


The team is extremely grateful to all of its sponsors for supporting the team and making this unique experience possible. GIPA provided considerable financial support to the team, with co-sponsorship of JSC Basis bank. Also, BLC Law Office was among the great supporters of the GIPA team for 22ndWillem C. Vis Moot Competition. The team received coaching and guidance from BLC lawyers – Rusa Tchkuaseli and Nino Sesitashvili – 2009 Willem C. Vis Moot alumni. Also, while preparing for the competition, GIPA team had permanent excess to BLC premises, library and materials.
