GIPA Student Film Festival – GIPA DocU Begins

08 December, 2025

Today, GIPA launches the GIPA DocU Film Festival, featuring films created by students of the university’s Bachelor’s programs in Audio-Visual Arts and Digital Media, as well as the Master’s program in Journalism and Media Management.
From December 8 to 12, film screenings will be held at GIPA every evening. GIPA students will present new documentary, fiction, experimental, and essay films.

Students of GIPA’s Audio-Visual Arts program have recently gained notable recognition. At the Tbilisi International Film Festival, the “Golden Prometheus” award was granted to two GIPA alumni: Tiku Kobiasvhili for her diploma film “Inner Blooming Springs” and Ketevan Vashagashvili for her film “Nine-Month Contract.”  These films will open and close this year’s GIPA DocU Student Festival.

It is noteworthy that, as part of student projects, a new cinema-club has been established at GIPA, and the festival’s opening is tied to this occasion. This initiative will further contribute to the development of GIPA students’ professional skills and create an engaging space for youth to gather and engage in stimulating discussions.

GIPA DocU was founded in 2012. Films created or initiated within the framework of the festival have been selected for competitive sections at some of the world’s top festivals, including Vision Du Réel, Dok Leipzig, Hot Docs, the Oberhausen Festival, and others. This year, a student film from the Faculty of Audio-Visual Arts, Tiku Kobiasvhili’s diploma work “Inner Blooming Springs” was selected for a special program at the Berlinale.
Many GIPA DocU alumni have continued their studies in prestigious international documentary film programs and schools, such as Doc Nomads, Close Up, the London Film School, UCL, Goldsmiths, and many more.
