Nature-Based Solutions to Increase Community Resilience Against Climate-Induced Disasters

The project is being executed within the framework of the European Union's Neighbourhood Instrument for Cross-Border Cooperation, funded under the financial assistance of the Black Sea Basin Programme 2021-2027 (ENI CBC Black Sea Basin Program). This initiative is dedicated to the implementation of measures aimed at preventing and mitigating the effects of climate change. The partners of the project are Ecolution Georgia, Association of Sustainable Transport and Cities (WRI Turkiye) and Forestry Research Institute - Hellenic Agricultural Organization - Dimitra.

Activities include sharing best practices among the three Black Sea countries (Georgia, Greece and Turkey) and implementing strategic approaches to protect communities vulnerable to climate-related disasters, adapt to climate change and prevent disaster risks.

Project-specific objective: To address the shared challenge of climate-induced disasters by implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) that enhance community resilience in Georgia and Türkiye

Project Goals:

  • Enhance community resilience against climate-induced disasters

  • Restore and conserve ecosystems to mitigate disaster risks

  • Promote transnational cooperation between Georgia, Türkiye, and Greece

Project Activities:

  • Desktop Study and Literature Review on Global & European Nature-Based Solutions; Case Studies, Models and Policies that are Most Relevant and Adaptable to Target Municipalities

  • Participatory Needs Assessment and Stakeholder Mapping

  • Development of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Action Plan for Target Municipalities

  • Developing and Implementing the “Nature-Based Solutions Capacity Building Training Course” for Municipalities and NGOs/CBOs

  • Guide for Municipalities on NBS Development/Implementation

  • Stakeholder Workshop to Discuss How to Stimulate Change of NBS at the Policy Level

  • Awareness raising activities on Nature Based Solutions

Expected Achievements:

  • Transnational cooperation between Georgian, Turkish and Greek parties through the sharing of experience, best practices, innovative technologies and knowledge

  • Promotion of adaptation to climate change

  • Disaster risk prevention and improved community resilience through ecosystem-based approaches
